22nd Century Tobacco to Launch VLN Low-Nicotine Cigarettes in South Korea

The company announced in a press release that South Korea will become the first international market to begin sales of 22nd Century VLN low-nicotine cigarettes
The company announced in a press release that South Korea will become the first international market to begin selling 22nd Century’s VLN low-nicotine cigarettes.

“South Korea is an ideal international launch market in many ways, with a high smoking rate for a developed country and a government firmly committed to reducing smoking-related harm. We expect to make our first sales of VLN low-nicotine cigarettes to our South Korean partner by the end of March,” said 22nd Century CEO James A. Mish.

“About one-third of adult men in South Korea smoke, and an estimated 6% of adult women smoke. Over the past two decades, the government has worked to promote smoking cessation through various measures, including raising tobacco prices, and remains committed to promoting alternative products to help curb smoking in the country. We are pleased to offer VLN reduced-nicotine products in South Korea to help break the cycle of nicotine addiction and support this important effort.”

The company will continue launching products in other Asian and European markets where regulatory barriers are limited, while also leveraging VLN’s Modified Risk Tobacco Product (MRTP) authorization in the United States to seek approval in other markets with higher regulatory barriers.

In addition to the initial launch of VLN low-nicotine cigarettes in the global tobacco market, valued at more than $800 billion, 22nd Century Group is also actively advancing the launch of VLN in the $80 billion U.S. market.

The U.S. FDA approved 22nd Century’s VLN low-nicotine cigarette products on December 23, 2021. The company is currently carrying out its 90-day post-authorization plan to launch in its first U.S. pilot market.

Low-nicotine cigarette products offer the same taste with 95% less nicotine!
