World No Tobacco Organization Urges Social Platforms to Ban Vaping Promotion
More than 100 public health organizations and others, including the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, are calling on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter to stop promoting nicotine vaping products or tobacco on their platforms, including paid promotion.

In a letter to the CEOs of the respective companies, these organizations urged social media companies to immediately update their existing advertising policies to prohibit tobacco companies from targeting young people with e-cigarette advertisements. The letter states that current policies on any platform do not explicitly prohibit the promotion of e-cigarette content.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>

“For years, tobacco companies have exploited social media platforms to market addictive products to young people,” said Matthew L. Myers, president of the Smoke-Free Children Movement, in a statement. “Social media platforms have a responsibility to protect their users from the predatory marketing tactics of large tobacco companies—Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter need to end their participation in activities that allow big tobacco to addict the next generation.”<\/span><\/div>
