The multinational company revealed its plans during Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic's visit to its facility on May 12.

BAT Adria Director Zvonko Kolobara stated: "By expanding production in Kanfanar and establishing a hub in Rijeka, we will continue British American Tobacco's significant investment in Croatia."

"By introducing production lines for new product categories, Croatia further strengthens its position in the global production base of the tobacco industry. We will continue to provide more choices for Croatian consumers."

This will help British American Tobacco meet the growing demand for heated non-combustible tobacco products in Europe and North Africa.

Plenkovic expressed satisfaction with British American Tobacco's ongoing investment in Kanfanar.

He said: "The new investment of 200 million reais in new products means new momentum, enthusiasm, and new business creators, thus contributing to Croatia's economy."

The company employs 1,600 people, with an additional 800 employees closely collaborating with BAT to make a living. The investment plan has been coordinated with its London headquarters, and all factory employees will feel satisfied, while the entire economy of Istria County will benefit from BAT's operations."

In June 2020, British American Tobacco suggested that it might relocate its Kanfanar factory to another country due to unfavorable business conditions. The government then initiated a campaign to keep the multinational company in Croatia.

Plenkovic emphasized that the new investment reflects Croatia's good business environment, rather than government pressure.
