PMFTC President Denis Gorkun stated that since April, several retail stores in the Philippines have been offering heated tobacco products, and the opening of these stores marks an important step towards achieving a "smoke-free future."

Gorkun said, "PMFTC's vision is to help adult smokers who would otherwise continue smoking to quickly transition away from cigarettes and towards better alternatives."

PMFTC's parent company, Philip Morris International, has invested over $7 billion in the research and production of smoke-free products, such as IQOS, which are now available in multiple countries/regions.

In July of this year, the U.S. FDA approved the sale of IQOS and heat sticks in the United States.

Gorkun stated that the FDA's decision indicates that IQOS is fundamentally a different tobacco product compared to cigarettes and is a better choice for adults who will continue to smoke.

A study commissioned by PMFTC showed that about 60% of adult smokers in the Philippines are willing to try smoke-free alternatives, provided these devices are commercially available and meet high-quality production standards.

PMFTC stated that IQOS is targeted at adult smokers, and the company is implementing age verification and access restrictions to ensure that only consumers of legal age (21 years and older) can access the stores, e-commerce site, and IQOS products.
