According to a report by PR Newswire, the number of patents filed by Japan Tobacco International (JTI) for its low-risk products has more than doubled compared to the previous year.
 
The 2019 patent index from the European Patent Office (EPO) indicates that JTI ranks among the top 100 patent filers at the EPO. This inclusion reinforces Japan Tobacco Group's (JT Group) position as an innovation leader, especially in the low-risk product sector, where the number of patent applications submitted by JTI has more than doubled compared to the previous year.
 
Stephane Hedarchet, Vice President of Intellectual Property at JTI, stated: "Our ranking among the top patent filers at the EPO demonstrates our commitment to innovation and is the result of extensive internal R&D. We have been developing new technologies and products, particularly for our heated tobacco Ploom series and Logic e-cigarette products, to better meet the needs of our consumers."
 
Globally, Japan Tobacco Group has obtained 4,200 patents, with an additional 2,800 patent applications pending approval. The group submitted 355 priority patent applications in 2019, covering the development of its diverse product range.
